Chris: Na ja, ich denke das hat sehr viel damit zu tun, dass wir alle erst um die 20 Jahre alt sind und in einer Zeit groß wurden, als Musik und ihre Trends ausschließlich von dem Sumpf gesteuert wurde, der auf MTV lief. Das kotze uns schon als Kids an und wir waren noch junge Buben, als wir dann Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio und Motörhead für uns entdeckten. Die Reaktionen auf "Spread The Fire" sind übrigens sehr positiv...

Chris: Fueled By Fire wurden im Jahre 2002 durch Barlos Guiterrez (drum) und seinen Schulfreund, den Gitarristen Sal Zepeda aus der Taufe gehoben. In der folgenden Entwicklung gab es einige Line-up Wechsel, Veränderungen und Entwicklungen um schließlich im – wie wir es nennen – "klassischen" line up zu enden.
Als wir dieses solide Line Up zusammen hatten, schien alles wie von selbst zu gehen. Die Chemie in der Band war großartig und ist es noch bis heute – wir sind richtige Brüder geworden - und die Songs purzelten einfach so aus uns heraus Shouter Jovanny "Gio" Herrara hat die Band mittlerweile bekanntlich verlassenum durch Rick ersetzt zu werden). Wir spielten immer mehr shows und konnten uns eine solide und stets wachsende Fanschar erarbeiten. Immer wenn wir die Bühne betraten waren noch mehr Leute da, die auf uns warteten und immer neue Songs forderten (FBF hatten zu dieser Zeit erst ein 4-track Demo am Start). Das war die Zeit, in der wir beschlossen wirklich ernsthaft zu arbeiten, alle Energie in die Band zu stecken um zu sehen wie weit wir kommen würden. Das war die Zeit, als "Spread The Fire!!!" entstand, welches wir dann ja auch als full-length Eigenproduktion veröffentlichten. Unser Plan war ein Jahr lang zu beobachten, wie die Reaktionen ausfallen würden, ob die Fans das Album mögen würden oder nicht. Danach wollten wir uns darum bemühen ein Label zu finden, bzw. abzuchecken, ob unsre Musik überhaupt interessant oder populär genug sei um offiziell releast zu werden. Wir veröffentlichten und das Album explodierte nahezu, verbreitete wahrlich Feuer...hahaha! Wir hätten uns nie solche Reaktionen erwartet, wir waren überwältigt! Bereits zwei Wochen, nachdem wir das Album rausgepresst hatten wurden wir von Al Dawson (Earache Records) kontaktiert, der auch ein ziemlich cooler Typ zu sein scheint. Weitere zwei Wochen später kontaktierte uns aber ein gewisser „Mr. Brian Slagel“ und wir konnten kaum glauben, dass es wirklich ER war. Wir fragten ihn allen Ernstes, ob er es wirklich sei, oder ob uns nur Freunde einen Streich spielen wollten. Er meinte nur: „...es ist wahr, wir sind interessiert Fueled By Fire unter Vertag zu nehmen!“.
Von diesem Zeitpunkt an waren die Verhandlungen im Gange und es war eine schwere Entscheidung, da beide Angebote großartig waren. Im Endeffekt war aber wohl doch die Geschichte von Metal Blade, der Name von Brian Slagel und dessen Wichtigkeit für den Thrash Metal ausschlaggebend für eine eindeutige Entscheidung seitens der Band. Metal Blade wollten "Spread The Fire" re-releasen und Brian wollten neben einigen Bonus Tracks ein neues Mastering und ein neuen Mix. Wir stimmten zu und nun, einige Monate später bekommen wie von Leuten, die den re-release erstmals hören fast ausnahmslos gute Reaktionen. Die Dinge passieren momentan ziemlich schnell, fast jeder Tag bringt was Neues. Wir wurden unter anderem eingeladen beim "Keep It True Festival X" aufzutreten – eine große Ehre, die ich fast nicht erwarten kann. Wir sind auch schon fest daran neues Material für das nächste Album zu schreiben, eigentlich läuft momentan alles großartig.
Zu unserem täglichen Leben? Haha, die "Tagesjobs" kotzen uns eigentlich an, ansonsten gehen einige von uns viel Skateboarden, wir hängen in Plattenläden rum, streifen durch Hollywood und trinken Bier! Und wir lieben echten Metal!!!!

Chris: Da müssen wir Dir klar zustimmen. Wir hatten auch nicht das Gefühl, dass das Album remixed werden müsste, wir waren wirklich happy mit dem Original, die Fans liebten es ebenfalls, Brian riet uns aber dazu die Bonustracks aufzunehmen und somit den alten Fans ein „anderes“ Album mit anderem Sound und eben den neuen Songs zu präsentieren. Es war auch Brian, der uns Joey Vera empfiehl und im Endeffekt war es die richtige Entscheidung, da der Mix absolut großartig wurde. Der Sound ist klarer und tretet trotzdem höllisch Arsch!

Chris: Danke vielmals! Unser Eigen-Release wurde von zwei guten Kumpels von Merciless Death, Andy and Ceser Torres kreiert. Sie machten einen großartigen Job! Wir wollten ausdrücken, wie unsere Live shows abgehen. Es gibt ein Foto, das als Vorlage diente! Das neue Cover stammt von einem Typen namens Dez aus Long Island. Wir wollten die Intensität der Musik ausgedrückt wissen. Fuck Nu-Metal, Fuck Emo, Fuck Metal Core! Wir glauben das ist uns gelungen....

Chris: Wir lieben sie! Solche Vergleiche lassen und daran glauben, dass wir das Richtige machen! Wir machen einfach nur die Musik, die wir auch gern selbst hören würden und wir sind ohne Frage von 80er Größen der Bay Area ebenso beeinflusst wie von einigen deutschen Thrash Bands und auch einigen Crossover Thrash Alben!

Chris: Die Szene in Kalifornien ist absolut großartig! Es gibt viele überzeugte Metalheads, wir sind stolz auf die Geschichte unsrer Region und es ist absolut toll. Wir leben in Norwalk, einer kleinen Stadt in Los Angeles County, umgeben von jenen Städten, in denen Slayer, Dark Angel, Evil Dad und die (originalen) Metallica groß wurden...

Chris: Wir bekommen ohne Frage mit, dass die Szene in Europa absolut verblüffend ist. Allein wenn man sieht, welche Festivals bei Euch abgehen ist es schier unglaublich. Das ist einer der Gründe, weshalb wir es kaum erwarten können, am „KIT X“ zu spielen. Dort sind einige Band, mit denen wir in Kontakt stehen, Evile, Crucifier oder Executioner. Sie haben das selbe feeling wie wir und geben sich dem Thrash hin. Wir freuen uns schon sehr sie zu treffen....

Chris: Die Clubs in Kalifornien wollten, speziell in Hollywood, keine Metal Shows und stellten auf Stur. Aber wir zeigten ihnen was wir können und mittlerweile werden es immer mehr und mehr solche, die auch Metal Shows veranstalten. In unserem Fall war das "Whiskey a Go Go" die Location, die uns erstmals ermöglichte einen anständigen Gig zu spielen. Nun gibt es einige, wir haben mit "The Knitting Factory" und "Safari Sams" die zwei führenden Hollywood Clubs für Metal. Es werden aber immer mehr und YEAH!, es gibt’s verdammt viele geile lokale Bands. Merciless Death, Hatchet, Whitchaven, Unholy Lust, Sakrificer, Melt Down…unmöglich alle zu nennen. Wir haben alle die gleiche Einstellung, wir lieben es zu Shows spielen wo man einfach durchdrehen kann!
Magazine gibt es hingegen leider nicht sehr viele,..

Chris: Meiner Meinung nach sind die meisten modernen Bands nutzlos. Wir hören eher underground Bands wie Toxic Holocaus, die sind großartig...und JA! Das alte Zeug ist das beste!!!

Chris: Wir wollen einfach nur Platten aufnehmen und um die Welt touren können. Wir wollen den Fans das zeigen, was wir nie erleben durften. Eine echte, verrückte 80er Thrash Show, wo sie total durchdrehen können! Wir hoffen bald auf Tour nach Europa zu kommen. Wir drücken beide Daumen!

Chris: Wir haben schon einige Tracks fertig. Das Album wird wohl ein wenig dunkler in seiner Stimmung, alles wird noch böser klingen. Du wirst einiges an Sepultura, Vio-Lence oder auch Death Einflüsse hören. Hör einfach noch mal die Bonus Tracks von "Spread The Fire" an, das ist in etwa der Weg, den es gehen wird...

Chris: Well I think it has alot to do with the fact that we're only 20 years old hahaha, and we grew up in a time where music was based on what was on mtv in the 90's it sucked!!, it was in our early teens when we discovered Iron Maiden, Judas Jriest, Dio, Motorhead!!. As far as the reviews we've receeived? we have had mostly positive reviews, we are very proud of that.

Chris: Fueled By Fire : Well it was started in 2002 with Carlos Gutierrez-Drummer, and a school friend on guitar Sal Zepeda. As we progressed we made some lineup changes and added a couple more pieces, And we end up with what we call the "Classic Lineup"and that is, Carlos Gutierrez - Drums age:20 deliver's auto part's. , Jovanny (Gio)Hererra- Guitar/lead Vocals age:19- works for Fed-Ex, Rick Rangel- Guitar age:19 - in between jobs, Anthony Vasquez- Bass age:20 also in between job's. Once we had this solid lineup everything just started falling into place, the chemistry was great we could put togehter songs in no time, and we all get along great! we're like brother's. So,we started to play more venue's and building up a solid and larger fan base.
Everytime we hit the stage more and more people were demanding demo's with more song's than just the four song demo we had. So we decided really get serious and see how far we could go, thats when we put together our full length self release "SPREAD THE FIRE" our plan was give it a year and see if people liked it or not then we would start hitting up the labels to see if they would even consider our type of music since there really wasn't alot out there.
We released it on our own label and put the word out, and it litterally spread like fire! hahaha, we didn't expect the response we got.Two weeks after it was on the streets we were contacted by Al Dawson of (Earache Records) who just happens to be a really cool guy, then another two weeks later we were contacted by "Mr. Brian Slagel", at first we didn't even believe it was him, so we asked if it was real or one of our friends playing a joke he responded "it is real and we are interested in signing Fueled By Fire.
At that point negotiation's were in the works it was a tough decision both offer's were great but over all just the history of Metal Blade, Brian Slagel and Thrash Music it was an obvious choice, METAL BLADE RECORDS!!. They wanted to re- release "Spread The Fire" and since it was already out "Brian" suggested we add a couple of bonus tracks and have it re-mixed and mastered we agreed. Now that it has been out a couple of weeks it's getting a great response the people who had the first love the re-release. Thing are moving kinda fast right now but we love it almost every day there is something new happening, We were invited to play in the"Keep It True X festival in Germany, that a real honor - can't wait! we're gearing up for our up-coming tour in November, and we're putting together more material for our next release. every thing is going great! hahaha our day jobs suck! some of our interest are skateboarding,going to the record store,hangin out in hollywood, and drinking beer!!! and we all love true metal!!!

Chris: We agree with you, we didnt feel that the album needed to be re-mixed, we really were happy with the origional work we did and the fans loved it also, but Brian Slagel suggested it to us, and that we add the bonus tracks, that way it would give the people who already have our self re-lease something new. It was also Brian who suggested Joey Vera do the work we were cool with that, we're big fan's of Armored Saint and it was cool to work with Joey Vera, and when we heard what Joey did with the mix,it was the right decision, the positive notes are that the sound is alot cleaner, though it lacks in the power it had, it still manages to KICK YOUR ASS!!

Chris: Thank You!, our self-realease was drawn up by our good friends from Merciless Death, Andy and Ceser Torres they did a great job! We wanted to express what our shows are like we actually have a picture of a live show that that was created from. Our latest art cover was made by a guy from Long Island named Dez, we wanted a cover that can match the intensity that the music has!! fuck nu-metal/emo/metalcore! and we think we pulled it off with this one.

Chris: We love it! it makes us feel like were doing a good job! we simply make music that we wanna hear! and were heavely influenced by 80's bay area/german/crossover thrash

Chris: Here in California the metal scene is great! there are alot of dedicated metal fans! we are proud of the rich history that our state has, it's great! we live in a small city in Los Angels County named Norwalk which is surounded by the cities that Slayer, Dark Angel, Evil Dead, Metallica (origionally) were from.

Chris: We see that the metal scene is amazing in Europe just by seeing the festivals that are held there! That's why we can't wait to play "KIT X" there are many bands that we keep in touch with that are from all over Europe, like Evile, Crucifier, Executioner. they all have the same feeling a dedicatin to thrash metal that we do, and we hope to meet up with all of them soon!

Chris: Here in California, the clubs gave us a fight , they really didn't want to have Metal Shows especially in Hollywood, but we showed them what we could do and now there are more clubs jumping on board and allowing Metal shows to be held, for us it was the Whiskey a Go Go that opened their doors to us, now we have The Knitting Factory and Safari Sams, those are the main Hollywood clubs we play in, and more are popping up. and YEAH! there are many great local bands such as Merciless Death(Ca.), Hatchet(S.F.), Whitchaven(Ca.), Unholy Lust(Ca.), Sakrificer(Ca.), Melt Down(PA) execution, just to name a few, we all have the same attitudes and goals, we just love playing shows where everyone can just go fucking crazy! not too many magz.

Chris: Well most modern bands suck in our opinion, We perfer listening to bands that are underground nowadays! like Toxic Holocaust!!! they are a great band! and yea old stuff is the best!

Chris: We just wanna make records and tour the world! and give the fans an experience that we were not able to have, which is to go to an insane 80's style thrash show! and go fuckin crazy!

Chris: We are very excited to be a part of the"KEEP IT TRUE X FESTIVAL" we are actually planning to do more shows while we're out there, hopefully we get to hit up all of Europe! so keep an eye out for a Fueled By Fire European tour soon! We're crossing our finger's that it works out.

Chris: We have 3 tracks we feel will be fitting for our next album and we're working on more songs with the same feeling those songs have, We think the direction in style is a more darker and evil sounding, you'll hear some definate sepultura, vio-lence,death influence, if you listen to the bonus tracks on the spread the fire album, that would be the best description of what the next albums sound will be.
