Was treibt Dich eigentlich immer noch an?

Sebastian Bach: Na hoffentlich ein Tourbus… ;-)

Über alles weitere frag bitte “The Hoff” selbst…

Sebastian Bach: Ganz klar.

Sebastian Bach: Mmmmh – keine Ahnung.

2011 bin musikalisch gesehen absolut happy.

Sebastian Bach:

Moscow Peace Festival = besoffen
TV casting shows = Gehaltsscheck
Gene Simmons = God of Thunder
Nikki Sixx = ist beleidigt auf mich
Ted Nugent = mag es, Dinge zu töten
Doc McGhee = mein alter Manager
“The Dirt” = Mötley Crüe’s Buch
Ozzy = großartige, klare Stimme
Dave Mustaine = großartiges Buch
Axl Rose = sehr guter Freund
Steel Panther = lustige Typen

DarkScene: In unserer Wortassoziation habe ich “The Dirt” erwähnt.

DarkScene: Deine letzten Worte an unsere Leser…

Sebastian Bach: Checkt unbedingt die Deluxe Version von "Kicking & Screaming" mit der DVD "As Long As I Have The Music" ab. Vielen Dank.

English version of the interview:

DarkScene: It’s been a couple of weeks now since "Kicking & Screaming" has been released. How does it feel to be able to put yet another killer album in your resume as an artist?

Sebastian Bach: It feels great. I am Bach on the charts after 16 years and that is a long time to wait for this feeling. Thanks to all the rockers around the globe who have supported the record I can't thank you all enough. Glad you like the CD and I can't wait to get started on the next one!

DarkScene: "Kicking & Screaming" has been featured as ALBUM OF THE WEEK and got an 8 out of 10 rating on our website. I personally think of it as a truly awesome album but aside from that – what’s the general response from press and fans alike so far?

Sebastian Bach: This has been the best reviewed album of my career, including the original Skid Row albums. People are responding really well to the music and I am so happy that people like it.

DarkScene: What totally struck me about the album was its versatility. There you got some killer metal tracks that instantly grab you by the balls. At times you mixed in some classic hard rock type of songs. All of a sudden you’re surprising me with some really cool modern sounding tunes and if all that wouldn’t be enough you sprinkle a couple of really good power ballads on top of it. How did you approach the songwriting for this album to come up with such an interesting song mix?

Sebastian Bach: All you can do when making a CD is to make music that you really like and that you are really proud of . There is not really a "plan" going in. All the albums I have ever done I have been extremely proud of and I am the most proud of this one. I actually listen to it all the time like I would listen to another band’s album.

DarkScene: I also think that Bob Marlette most definitely did a fine job in producing your new album. What made you pick him for this task and can you briefly describe his work approach?

Sebastian Bach: Bob is an incredible producer and songwriter. We wrote the title track and "Dirty Power" with Bob and I would love to work with him again in the future . He made my voice sound really cool and got super tight performances out of all of us. I would love to work with Bob again in the future.

DarkScene: "Kicking & Screaming" is your first collaboration with Italian label “Frontiers Records”. How did this deal come about?

Sebastian Bach: My managers Rick Sales and Andrew Stuart got me the deal with Frontiers. Frontiers has pulled out all the stops in making a super high quality release. The CD, DVD and LP are all top quality and I really appreciate that.

DarkScene: As somebody who has musically speaking seen it all and done it all, what’s still driving you these days?

Sebastian Bach: A tour bus I hope.

DarkScene: In your career you have been working together with a multitude of musicians. What traits, what kind of work ethic must somebody bring to the table to be picked to play in your solo band? Part two of this question: What are the ultimate no-go’s in dealing with you as an artist?

Sebastian Bach: I don’t allow my band members to drink any alcohol before we go onstage. There is more than enough time to party after the show, no need to start before the gig. I like to play with people who like to come up with new music. To me that is the fun part of being in a band.

DarkScene: In your role as “Gil” in the TV series “Gilmore Girls” the tables were turned. In this show you were auditioning as a guitar player and subsequently got the job in Lane’s band which leads to my next question. I’m dying to know how Sebastian Bach ended up in a family show like that? How did this come together and please tell us a little bit about your experiences from that time…

Sebastian Bach: I got the “Gilmore Girls” gig from my experience on Broadway. It was a fun show to do and it still airs all over the world. I miss the cast and I enjoyed doing the show.

DarkScene: How hard was it for you to adapt to “acting” and would you consider doing something similar in the future?

Sebastian Bach: If it was up to me I would play music all the time and do nothing else. I never tried to be an actor, acting came to me. I would consider doing it in the future but it's all about the role for me.

DarkScene: Your illustrious career also contains a chapter where you were doing quite a lot of stage work. Your title role in the musical “Jekyll & Hyde” propelled you onto the famous “Broadway” for the first time in the year 2000. How did you manage to get this gig?

Sebastian Bach: I got the “Jekyll & Hyde” gig from Jason Flom, who signed Skid Row back in 1987. He thought my voice would be perfect for the role and I had the time of my life in that production.

DarkScene: Is it true that out of probably thousands and thousands of contestants they picked fucking David Hasselhoff as your replacement when you left? Please elaborate a little bit on that…

Sebastian Bach: Yes they did. You would have to ask "the Hoff" about that.

DarkScene: How hard was it for you as a heavy metal singer to change your singing style to the musical genre? I assume that this is an entirely different ballgame, isn’t it?

Sebastian Bach: Yes, there are little if any microphones on Broadway. You have to be able to project your voice to the back row which I can. The acting was a bigger challenge for me than the singing was.

DarkScene: What every day job would Sebastian Bach have in the year 2011 if your musical career wouldn’t have amounted to anything?

Sebastian Bach: No clue. Maybe own a record store.

DarkScene: Can fans of Sebastian Bach look forward to any touring activities of yours in Europe and especially in the Germany/Austria/Switzerland area in the near future?

Sebastian Bach: We are planning to tour in Europe in January and February. Any dates will be posted on my site as soon as I get them.

DarkScene: If you compare being in a highly successful band back in the heydays of heavy music in the late 80ies and early 90ies with all the fame and fortune that came along with it to the present time - if anything, what do you miss the most about the time back then and what kind of things do you appreciate these days approaching your musical career with a lot more maturity?

Sebastian Bach: I dont miss 1991 at all. I am perfectly happy musically in 2011.

DarkScene: As a kid who or what made you wanna be in a band? Who were your early influences?

Sebastian Bach: KISS, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Judas Priest, Rush... the usual

DarkScene: Are there any modern bands around that are able to impress you in any way?

Sebastian Bach: Black Veil Brides and Asking Alexandria

DarkScene: Back when Velvet Revolver was founded I was so hoping that you would end up fronting this band. Did Slash ever tell you why he picked Scott Weiland over you? I mean, come on – Slash, Duff and yours truly in the same band – can you imagine how good this would’ve been???

Sebastian Bach: We recorded about 5 songs together in the studio. I still have the CD i think.

DarkScene: We do a thing called word association. We mention a name and you give us the first thing that pops into your head:

Sebastian Bach:

Moscow Peace Festival = drunk
TV casting shows = paycheck
Gene Simmons = god of thunder
Nikki Sixx = is mad at me
Ted Nugent = likes to kill things
Doc McGhee = my old manager
“The Dirt” = Mötley Crüe’s book
Ozzy = great clean voice
Dave Mustaine = great book
Axl Rose = great friend
Steel Panther = funny dudes

DarkScene: Having mentioned “The Dirt” in our word association, have you ever thought of doing a book about the life of Sebastian Bach? I’m sure you’d have a fair share of nice little stories to tell the world…

Sebastian Bach: Yes. My book will make "The Dirt" look clean.

DarkScene: What’s next for Sebastian Bach?

Sebastian Bach: We shall see.

DarkScene: Any last words for our readers?

Sebastian Bach: Check out the Deluxe version of "Kicking & Screaming" with the DVD "As Long As I Got The Music" which has a ton of live concert footage. Hope you like it! Thanks
