Hi Johnny.

"Let's stay out there, man!"

DarkScene: Was ist dein "Hauptberuf", was deine Berufung.

Was war deine musikalischer Startschuss.

Sag was dir dazu spontan einfällt:

Johnny :
Neil Schon: Unfassbares Talent!
Axel Rudi Pell: "Großer Strudel"
Ronnie Romero: Netter Junge
Dee Snider: Große, intelligente Seele mit Temperament
Bret Michaels: Wie ist das passiert?
Ronnie James Dio: Trauriger Verlust. Ich habe Ronnie geliebt!
Bono: Freiheit!
Axl Rose: Interessant!
David Coverdale: Großartig im Studio. Live zum Kotzen.
Vince Neil: "Auto-Tune City"
Bruce Springsteen: "Born in the USA. Will die in the USA."

Was steht für 2017 an?

Johnny : Mehr von Allem plus eine Hardline Tour. Yeeeehaaaaaa!

DarkScene: Deine Lieblingssongs, die du selbst gesungen hast:

Johnny : "In the Hands of Time", "Love is Gonna Take you Home".

DarkScene: Die besten drei ARP Platten:

Johnny : "Oceans of Time", "Game of Sins" und "The Crest"

DarkScene: Die beste Hardline Platte:

Johnny : Natürlich "Human Nature"...haha...

DarkScene: Deine letzten Worte an unsere Leser...

-------------------------------------
English version: Johnny Gioeli Interview:

DarkScene: You have just returned to the US after a successful tour with Axel Rudi Pell. How are you and how do you feel after those exhausting weeks?

Johnny : I feel awesome! It’s a love/hate situation sometimes. You miss your family AND you miss the road. I really enjoy the fans and I try to focus 10000% on them. I always think the tours are too short! Let’s stay out there man!

DarkScene: Can you describe the "average work year" in the life of Johnny Gioeli? You're regularly recording and playing shows with Axel Rudi Pell. There's your work with Hardline and you're probably having some kind of day job to pay the bills. How do you manage to coordinate all those activities properly?

Johnny : Hahahahahaha! No, not really a day job. I have worked and owned companies my whole life. I don’t think I could last one day with someone telling me what to do in a „normal job“. I’d be fired fast! My years are filled with music, family, hockey for my son, different companies I operate and on and on....I am a BUSY BUSY guy. I’m up early...sometimes begining in the 4 am time and I work on everything until I almost drop dead at night. Hahaha

DarkScene: Going back to the previous question... do you have a day job aside from the music business? If so, what is it? I think having read somewhere that you had been studying medicine sometime in the 90ies after leaving the music business temporarily.

Johnny : I studied medicine out of love fort he field but not work. My friends in bands were doing drugs and I was learning about them. Hahaha Like I mentioned, I’ve owned a lot of companies...mostly technical in nature.

DarkScene: Was there a time period in the early 90ies after the release of Hardline's debut album when it was possible for to entirely live off your musical income? Or did that milestone in the melodic rock universe come out just a few years too late for that? In the 80ies you probably would have been an instant millionaire with that kind of album...

Johnny : Are you going to ask form y tax return? I paid just like Trump! Wait.....he didn’t pay! Hahhahahaha That asshole. I always think about the timing of "Double Eclipse"....yes, a little earlier and I would have a little bigger airplane. Hahaha We still made a good living in those days as well, but worked our asses off.

DarkScene: How difficult is it for you to record with Axel Rudi Pell or do rehearsals for liveshows with him due the enormous geographical distance? How are you guys overcome that issue? How often are you coming to Europe?

Johnny : It’s easy actually thanks to technology. We pass music files back and forth and have Skype sessions. I LOVE traveling, so going to Europe many times a year is fun for me.

DarkScene: How did your collaboration with Axel Rudi Pell start? Is it true that Jeff Scott Soto had a key role in this? Have you ever heard of Axel Rudi Pell beforehand?

Johnny : Yes, my buddy Jeff gave Axel my information. I NEVER heard of him before. But I liked "Axel". And I work with people I like. We emailed for 6 months before even deciding to work with him. The rest is history....18 years worth.

DarkScene: Axel Rudi Pell more or less hit the jackpot having you sing in his band? What are the benefits on your side from your work together?

Johnny : I think it’s cool that we have a long history together, we all get along well....he understands my crazy schedule and works around it....SO MANY great things about the situation.

DarkScene: Are there any Axel Rudi Pell activities taking place in the US?

Johnny : None. It’s a different world here in the USA.

DarkScene: Have you ever thought of Axel Rudi Pell being some kind of weird name for a band?

Johnny : I have often told him it should be : Johnny Gioeli. Hahahahahaha No, it’s his band! It’s ok with me!

DarkScene: Let's go a little farther back in time. The entire rock world is familiar with your voice and has been up to this very day worshipping your performance on Hardline's debut album. "Double Eclipse" is most definitely the best melodic rock album of all time. What are your thoughts on those glory days from today's perspective?

Johnny : Honestly my focus is now and not "then". People do love that CD as I do, but it’s 2016 and I have made 30 albums since that time. I don’t focus on it much. I am however proud of that record. I put my lifeblood into it.

DarkScene: A lot has changed since then. "II" was the last record that included your brother and on "Leaving The End Open" and "Danger Zone" you were the only original member left in Hardline. How did your work in Hardline change over the years?

Johnny : I think it changed fort he better. I like working with different artistis. It’s creative work...and working with different people brings it out even more! I like "today’s" Hardline....a LOT.

DarkScene: What can we expect from the new Hardline album?

Johnny : A very Double Eclipse feeling!

DarkScene: Is there a realistic chance for a Hardline tour in Europe? Maybe as a special guest for Axel Rudi Pell? Would you be able to perform two sets in one evening on a regular basis singing-wise?

Johnny : It’s happening in May 2017. Already in motion! Also, many festivals this summer.

DarkScene: It's probably not that easy maintaining your voice as you're turning older. How do you deal with that on tour?

Johnny : Actually, it’s the same voice I had when I was young! Hahaha But it’s true that I do have to focus on good health with it for sure. On the road I am very Paranoid with over talking and over-singing. FOR SURE!

DarkScene: How is your singing voice changing with age? How do you keep yourself and your voice in shape?

Johnny : I’m an advocate for good health. So, if you care for yourself, your caring for your voice.

DarkScene: Was there a single record or single show that made you want to become a rock musician? What made you start your career and what were your early influences?

J: My brother was my musical influence at a very early age. I was 8 years old and then played pro at 11 years old.

DS: At what point in your career have you noticed that your singing was really something special?

Johnny : Is it? Hahahaha I really don’t think of myself that way, I just sing and hope everyone loves is.

DarkScene: What are your favorite singers?

Johnny : Anyone with the balls to open their mouth and express themselves is my favorite. I don’t have just one fav. I respect ALL singers.

DarkScene: What's the first thought that pops up in your head when hearing the following names...

Johnny :
Neil Schon: Amazing talent
Axel Rudi Pell: Great Strudel
Ronnie Romero: Nice kid
Dee Snider: great entrprenural spirit
Bret Michaels: how did that happen?
Ronnie James Dio: sad loss. I loved Ronnie.
Bono: freedom
Axl Rose: interesting
David Coverdale: great in the studio, sucks live
Vince Neil: auto-tune city
Bruce Springsteen: Born in the USA. Will die in the USA.

DarkScene: What is your take on today's music business compared to back then? Have the 80ies really been that great and has Kurt Cobain really been the death for classic hard rock and metal in the US?

Johnny : There is no music business today. It’s socially driven music and engagement with fans. That’s the new business.

DarkScene: Loving the Italian lifestyle myself, I heard somewhere that you're half Italian. Is that true? Please tell our readers where your family roots are?

Johnny : I’m 100% Italian. From Palermo

DarkScene: There's gonna be a Johnny Gioeli solo album in the future. What can we expect from that and what musicians will you hire for that album?

Johnny : Still in the works...! You can check it all out at www.pledgemusic/johnnygioeli.com and people can still pledge for the solo album and other cool stuff. I’m really excited about this, it has allowed me to connect with fans in a way I never could have before. I should’ve been on social media ten years ago!

DarkScene: What's next for you? What's up in 2017?

Johnny : More of EVERYTHING! PLUS a Hardline tour! Yeeeehaaaaaa!

DarkScene: What are your favorite songs that you sang on?

Johnny : "In the Hands of Time", "Love is Gonna Take you Home". These are my top 2

DarkScene: And your favorite songs that you didn't sing?

Johnny : Got nothing here... hahaha

DarkScene: Your favorite 3 Axel Rudi Pell albums?

"Oceans of Time", "Game of Sins" and "The Crest"

DS: The best Hardline album?

Johnny : "Human Nature!" Of Course! haha

DarkScene: Your last words to our readers after that neverending interview...

Johnny : Thank you to everyone who has cared enough to listen, buy and support my music. I love each and everyone across this unreal world we live in! Peace people!

DarkScene: Thank you for doing this interview. I appreciate it. Best of luck to you. Take care.

Johnny : Thank you –Very much!
