(For the English version of the interview, please scroll down…)

DarkScene: Gratuliere zu Eurem neuen Album "The Divine Debauchery".

Was sind Eure Erwartungen vom Release Eures neuen Albums in Europa?

Brad Arnold: Es gibt schon einige gute Bands hier in Utah.

DarkScene: Was sind Eure nächsten Ziele? Was wollt Ihr als nächstes erreichen?

Brad Arnold: Ganz klar - Ozzy mit "Blizzard Of Oz".

Brad Arnold: Lieblingsalben 2007 Sevendust - "Alpha", Ozzy - "Black Rain", Sixx A.M.

Brad Arnold: Danke, Maggo. Gern geschehen.

English version of the interview:

DarkScene: Hi guys. This is Maggo from Darkscene, the leading hardrock and heavy metal online magazine in Austria. I appreciate you taking the time to do an interview with us.

Brad Arnold: Greetings Maggo, I’m B. lead vocals for The Steet. I am honored to be a part of this interview.

DarkScene: For our readers that don´t follow the scene closely or haven´t heard of THE STREET before, could you give us a short description of the band and its history? Could you also share some information about each band member (age, musical interest, day jobs, …)?

Brad Arnold: The Street was formed many years ago in Salt Lake City Utah. By myself and the former guitarist of the band. We worked every club in the area about 2 million times apiece and you know what man? Were still pounding it down the throats of America. My name is Brad Arnold I’m 30 yrs old and I sing for The Street. My partner in crime and best buddy is Rob Lambros also 30 yrs old keeps time and beats the hell out of the drums and runs a very successful taxidermy business by day. Randy Vaughn age 33 plays lead guitar and wishes he could stop masturbating 6 times a day.On the other lead guitar we have Chris Miller age 34. He is very secretive about what he does with his time outside of The Street. We all think he is an Axe murderer or somethingcreepy like that. And finally on Bass we have Garry Navas. Garry works on the military base as a coordinator for the sports program. Garry is 33 yrs old and comes from Boston Mass.

DarkScene: Congratulations on your new album "The Divine Debauchery". I think you guys did a fantastic job on that album. It´s an awesome piece of classic US Hardrock that isn´t full of all the Hollywood clichés. The reactions and reviews should be very positive. What are your impressions on your new release?

Brad Arnold: Thank you very much, that a great compliment for us to hear that people appreciate what we do. I love this record, I’m so proud to have been a part of the conception, the writing and the recording of it. We’re all very happy with how the record turned out, and hope to reach a lot of people through the music, and especially happy to have the opportunity to reach the European market with our music. We can only hope that the people in Europe will like it as well.

DarkScene: Who are the main songwriters in the band and tell us a little bit about the whole songwriting process in THE STREET?

Brad Arnold: Well each song will start with a guitar riff. Usually in never turns out the way it starts because we all pick it apart from the get go. The band puts the music together piece by piece and in the meantime I sit aside and hash out vocal parts. Usually the song will change 5-6 times after we have already put it together. When the music is written and arranged I take a cd of the songs and lock myself away for a few days, sometimes weeks. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to writing lyrics and arranging vocal parts. So usually I write 3-4 different versions of the song even if I really like everything about the song, they will change significantly when we enter the studio and start the recording process. 5 perfectionist musicians in one room, try to imagine that lol.

DarkScene: Although "The Divine Debauchery" is your 6th full-length album this is the first time I´ve come across your “name”. Tell us a little bit about your earlier releases? Have you changed musical directions over the years?

Brad Arnold: Accually for this band "The Devine Debauchery" is the only full length album that really matters. The Street has been through a lot of changes over the years, musically, personally, financially, and emotionally. This band was ran by people who wanted it their way and had their own version of how it would sound and look like. About 1 yr ago The Street underwent a major line up change. The original guitarist finally stepped down and the bass player followed. Rob and myself found ourselves without a band. It was either throw in the towel or form a new band and continue. We recruited and stole members from other bands and formed this unit that we have today. The Street albums of the past, are just that. Contrived music that nobody really cares about anymore, including us.

DarkScene: I´m assuming that "The Divine Debauchery" is your first album to be released in Europe? At the moment hardrock music in general is making a big comeback in Europe, especially in the Scandinavian countries where it´s almost the norm again to be awarded with gold and platinum sales status. What are your expectations on the release of your new album in Europe?

Brad Arnold: Yes this is our 1st release in Europe. As far as expectations go, all we can do is sit back watch and hope. We obviously want the record to be successful. We difinitly expect alot out of ourselves, but we are also aware of what we are up against, all we want is a chach to be heard. If we can reach people here in the states why not in Europe. It all remains to be seen, but we are definitely hoping our European audiences pile on to what The Street is all about, our music.

DarkScene: Salt Lake City isn´t considered one of the major music capital cities like Los Angeles, New York, etc. It´s probably pretty challenging getting recognition especially considering that you play what some consider an “outdated style” of music. What is the status of the band in the US (sales, airplay, recognition, etc.)?

Brad Arnold: We do very well here, it’s not radio airplay, or press or anything like that because radio here doesn’t care about Indie bands. The only reason the people here love The Street is we give people what they want to see in a live band, outdated or not. If a band absolutely kills their audiences live, album sales are sure to follow. We stay playing live and we will continue to do well. Of course it is so incredibly difficult to find financial backing for touring unless you’re a signed band. It’s all backwards.

DarkScene: Is there a scene for hard music in Utah? If so, tell us a little bit about the local scene?

Brad Arnold: There are some really good bands here in Utah. Honestly though nothing sets anybody apart from anybody else here. Utah isn’t known for it’s music scene at all so it’s hard to get outside recognition. That’s why we decided to go on the road and stay on the road.

DarkScene: What are your next goals as a band? What do you want to achieve next?

Brad Arnold: Well we want our album "The Devine Debauchery" to do well in Europe and of course we want to tour Europe. That’s the main goal for this band right now.

DarkScene: Do you have plans to tour to support the new album? Any plans to tour Europe? There are plenty of huge hardrock and metal festivals all over Europe that would cater to your sound.

Brad Arnold: Yes we are currently touring in the u.s. and I guess well see what happens with a European tour in the future. Is there any way that you could send us the info on these festivals you mentioned. We would really appreciate that.

DarkScene: You´ve been in the business for over 10 years now. Of all the bands you have toured with (big names like ALICE COOPER, SKID ROW, DOKKEN, WARRANT, the list goes on) who were the biggest dicks and who treated you the best?

Brad Arnold: I would definitely say that Great White treated us the best, were still friends with all of them. Really a great group of guys A+. The biggest dicks we ever worked with as far as bigger bands go, and forgive me because their lead singer just recently passed away but it was Quiet Riot. They were not a pleasant band to work with, but all respects to Kevin Debrow. Rest in peace.

DarkScene: What was that one band or that one album that made you want to pick up an instrument and be in a band?

Brad Arnold: For me it was Ozzy - "Blizzard of Oz". Randy Rhodes made me want to play guitar and be in a band. Theirs a lot more influencial albums and bands from the day, but that’s the one that did it for me. The other guys in the band are not here so I can’t say for them.

DarkScene: Have you ever thought about “What might have been…” if THE STREET were around in the late 80´s? You probably would have been a pretty big band if around in that era. Do such thoughts ever cross your mind?

Brad Arnold: Yea we have all thought about that. We were all in junior high school in the 80’s. That’s when being a rockstar was as big as the sky, and as wide as the universe. Those were good times back then and I often wonder what would have happened if we could have taken this band back to that time. I am sure we would have done some serious damage.

DarkScene: What are your favorite albums of 2007 and of all time?

Brad Arnold: Favorite albums of 07 include "Alpha"-Sevendust, "Black Rain"-Ozzy, "The Herion Diaries"-Nikki Sixx, and -"15"-Buckcherry. Of all time? That’s a great question "Diary of a madman"-Ozzy, "Operation Mindcrime"-Queensryche, and a couple from Sabbath. And for Randys sake everything from Van Halen.

DarkScene: Thank you for answering my questions. I wish you all the best for your future with THE STREET and I hope we´ll be able to see you on tour some time soon.

Brad Arnold: Thanks Maggo it was a pleasure doing this interview and we also hope to see while on tour in Europe. Stay in touch and take care.
